Further Delay in the Launch of Cyberpunk 2077
Developers of the CD Projekt Red have confirmed that the much-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is ready for launch; however, they have delayed the launch of the game as they need some more time to polish the game for better performance on the launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the games that players have been waiting for a long time now, and not only because it has not been launched yet, but mainly because the game has now been delayed by the developer multiple times. The game had enticed a lot of viewers when it was screened in E3, but since then, it has been continuously delayed. CD Projekt Red announced the delay on Thursday, confirming that Cyberpunk 2077 is no longer being planned for release on September 17. Instead, Cyberpunk 2077will now launch on November 19, a delay of two additional months.
CD Projekt Red did give an explanation to its fans after further delaying the launch. They provided a lengthy letter to the fans and player-base waiting for a reply, which in detail explained why there had to be another delay. The letter read that the developers were sorry for delaying it again but also that the fans needed to be understanding of their predicament too. It further said that the game has been finished completely, with both content and game-play wise, but the developers need some additional time to clear out some bugs and smoothen the game mechanics and balance the game-play.
The work that needs to be done additionally on the finished game has also been attributed to the “Night City,” describing how big it is and just how many adventures players will be having inside this location. And this is necessary for the smooth functioning of the whole game. “A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out, and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that,” is how CD Projekt Red characterized what work is remaining. The letter further requests the fans to be a little more patient as the game is getting polished to be launched in November.
However, developer CD Projekt Red did realize that the waits are becoming tedious for the fans and, therefore, to make it less so the developers are giving gaming journalists access to Cyberpunk 2077 starting this week so that there is something to keep the fans busy. After the Night CityWire Event that is scheduled for June 25, the journalist who will have access will be able to publish certain coverages of the game. The scope of these coverages has not yet been clarified or confirmed. But hopefully, the coverages will be expansive enough to tide over the fans for at least for a little while till the launch date comes nearer.
While most of the fans will be understanding of the situation and will be sympathetic towards the delay by developer CD Projekt Red, there is a point of concern too. The point of concern is that earlier this year, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski said that Cyberpunk 2077’s development team is required to put in crunch hours “to some degree.” This statement was published in January, and Cyberpunk was delayed for a period of 5 months after that all the way into September. Now the game being delayed another two months brings the launch date down to November. Therefore adding “Final Stage” with required crunch hours, potentially points towards a full year of crunch.
Apart from the issue about the launching date, there are some other concerns about CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. This concern stems from the question about what CD Projekt Red has planned to do for the next generation consoles that are coming out. The game was first announced for the present generation consoles, so the other question lingers. Going forward with the launch date of November 17, Cyberpunk 2077 comes in direct line of the launch of the next-generation consoles and launch line-ups.
Initially, according to the first announcement by the developer CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 will think and modify the game for the adjustment with the next generation consoles later after its release, but now it feels like the developers might be rethinking that. This is not just an idea, but if this happens, the launch of the game might be delayed even more to accommodate every console. But if CD Projekt Red has already worked on that, then perhaps we will see PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Cyberpunk 2077 be available on November 19, too during the launch of the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases November 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Stadia and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
